We have previously highlighted the exam success of Carol Holmes of Grigor & Young and we are delighted to add further important information to that.
As reported in the July edition of the STEP (Society of Trusts and Estate Practitioners) Journal, Carol was one of the students who gained a pass with distinction.
However, she did even better than that, in terms of worldwide exam results in the period July to December 2015.
Carol had the highest score for the Graduate of STEP Diploma in Trusts and Estates (Scotland) AND Advanced Certificate in Accounting (Scotland).
Below is an excerpt from the announcement in the online version of the STEP Journal:
Carol’s reflections on the course
Carol says she decided to take on the course because she thought it would benefit herself and the firm, as well as local people in Moray who use the services of Grigor & Young.
She felt that membership of STEP would demonstrate that both she and the firm were willing to go ‘above and beyond’ to make sure clients have access to the best advice within the Wills and Estates field.
When asked whether she would recommend other practitioners to consider undertaking this training and qualification as well, Carol said: “I would certainly recommend this course to anyone who wishes to progress in the Trust and Estates field. It provides you with specialist knowledge, so you can provide additional advice both to clients and colleagues.”
She also felt there was a community and networking benefit from the course structure. She would recommend students to make sure they attend as many of the face-to-face workshops as possible. These provide a good opportunity to discuss the course with other students – and learn valuable tips from the lecturers. One tip which helped Carol, in particular, was to keep to the timing the lecturers advised for each question in the exams.
“G&Y were kind enough to give me time off to study and this made such a difference when it came to the exams.”
“The most useful continuing benefit of the course is having all the manuals and supplementary materials to hand to refer to during working hours, if needed. The knowledge I have gained gives me the confidence to advise clients further and be better able to pinpoint areas that may need additional work or advice.”
Again, we would like to congratulate Carol on her success. She has managed to come top of classes which contained many other bright and committed students. Though she did get some time off specially because of her exams, most of the time involved and effort expended has been down to her alone.
