1st Avoch Sea Scouts provide nautical and land based adventure training for young people aged 8 to 18.
They’re based on the Black Isle and operate from their Training Centre next to Avoch School and also the nearby Sailing Club at Chanonry, Fortrose. They use Avoch and Fortrose Harbours for the fleet.
Following their Training Centre closing about 4 years ago, the Sea Scouts undertook the management of the Centre to reopen it for scouting and the local community.
With the help of the Highland Council and Grigor & Young they have been able successfully to reassign the Centre to the Sea Scouts
By formalising the arrangement, they have been able to ensure that they are in a position to seek Grant Aid to make further improvements to the facilities.
Skipper, Derek Martin, said: ‘We are grateful for Grigor & Young waiving their fees associated with this matter. It made a huge difference for us.’
We were very pleased to receive a thank you note from the Sea Scouts signed at the start of their first residential camp at the Centre on 08 July 2016.
To Neil Ross,
We are very thankful for all your help to us in getting the Community Centre Building – which is now called the 1st Avoch Sea Scouts Training & Community Centre.
Ever since the Centre became officially ours, we have been so thrilled!
Many thanks again.
